Comedy means different things to different people.
For Japheth Orobosa Efosa , also known as Young Elder and Grand Comedian of the Federal Republic ( GCFR ), Comedy is a calling.
As a ranking comedian in Edo State and in Nigeria at large, Young Elder has carved a niche for himself with his unique genre of comedy, which focuses on children and families.
With over a decade experience in the humour industry, Young Elder has resolved to take his passion and support for the elderly to another level with the construction of a nursing home for the elderly in Edo State as well as providing small business setups for sustainable livelihood for the vulnerable in the society.
These initiatives were disclosed at the weekend in Benin City.
These initiatives aim to uplift the downtrodden and demonstrate Young Elder’s commitment to using his platform for positive impact.
Born in 1988 into a struggling polygamous family, Young Elder developed an innate knack for humor, which eventually led him to become a professional comedian.
He began his career as an MC in 2005 while still in secondary school and has since collaborated with prominent figures in the industry.
He recalls with a sense of nostalgia, “My career as an MC began in 2005 while in secondary school at a wedding reception where the MC failed the couple. My friends who knew my ability encouraged me to take up the microphone. My superlative performance that day endeared me to all and paved the way that opened a floodgate of invitations as an MC for weddings, birthday parties, and MC for companies’ annual general meetings and sundry events “.
Young Elder’s content creation journey was mentored by notable creators, and he has performed at notable stand-up comedy shows.
His efforts towards societal growth and moral rebirth have earned him several awards and recognition, including a Certificate of Appreciation from the Police Campaign Against Cultism and the Golden Voice Award (2025) from the National Directorate of Moral Rebirth Squad.
Through his comedy, Young Elder continues to inspire and uplift his audience, solidifying his position as a leading comedian in Nigeria.
