Vice President Kashim Shettima is receiving the Crown Princess of Sweden, Victoria Désirée, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Crown Princess, who arrived at the Villa at 02:13 pm, was received by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, who led her to the VP’s office.
Victoria is on an official visit to Nigeria from April 7 to April 9, 2025.
The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Sweden and Nigeria, the Swedish Embassy says.
A significant highlight of her visit is the commissioning of the Swedish Trade Office in Lagos, which is expected to bolster bilateral trade relations.
The Crown Princess had received Shettima at the Royal Palace in Stockholm during his official visit to Sweden last October.
Monday’s meeting is one of the few high-profile visits by Europe’s royalty.
In May 2024, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, undertook a three-day visit to Nigeria.
Invited by Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, their trip aimed to promote the Invictus Games, which Nigeria joined in 2022.
Earlier, in November 2018, Prince Charles, now King Charles III, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited Nigeria as part of a broader West African tour.
Their visit included meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari, traditional rulers and engagements focusing on peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue.
They also participated in discussions on environmental sustainability and youth entrepreneurship.
