Nigeria’s most widely read newspaper, The , on Friday, won the Fourth Estate award for the category of the print at the 2024 PR Power List Awards.

At the third edition of the event co-organised by a public relations company, GLG Communications on Victoria Island, Lagos,  was recognised for its outstanding and innovative works as a leading media organisation.

Popular actress and lawyer, Winihin Jemide, presented the award to Mrs Mary Ubani of the Digital Advert Unit of  Nigeria Limited amid applause and encomiums.

Speaking about the award, the managing partner of GLG Communications, Omagbemi Ogbe, said The  merited the award “for its ethical journalism, investigative reporting, and comprehensive national and international news coverage.”

She stated further, “The  has built a reputation for its fearless and independent approach to news reporting, often holding those in power accountable and shining a light on issues of public interest.”

Also, Arise News TV and Nairametrics bagged the awards for television and digital respectively under the Fourth Estate Award

While Arise was honoured for its comprehensive news coverage, in-depth analysis, and insightful reporting on politics, business, and current affairs, NairaMetrics was recognised for its comprehensive coverage of economic, financial, and business news.

Speaking with Sunday  on the sidelines of the event, Ogbe stressed the contributions of the PR to the Nigerian economy in terms of addressing unemployment and projecting the good image of the country, calling on the federal government to appreciate and invest in it.

“PR professionals add to the growth of the economy of the country because, at the end of the day, we employ people. We are helping to tell the story,” GLG Communications boss said.
