Napoli are leaning heavily on proceeds from Victor Osimhen’s sale to shore up the team ahead of 2024/25,
The Azzurri look to quickly shake off their nightmarish season that has seen them falter terribly in their Serie A title defence.
The club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is aware that a decisive response is needed in the summer following the difficult campaign, and the sale of the Nigerian striker will give him the resources necessary to shake up the squad and coaching crew, according to Football Italia.
Lille’s Jonathan David and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez are the two most realistic options to replace Osimhen, while there will also be reinforcements in the defence, with Fiorentina’s Lucas Martinez Quarta, Feyenoord’s Dávid Hancko and Atletico Madrid’s Mario Hermoso considered important targets.
The Partenopei shone under Luciano Spalletti last term, flying to their first Scudetto in over three decades, but the wheels quickly came off their project this campaign. Three coaches, Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri, and Francesco Calzona, have graced the dugout, but none have found consistency.
To this end, they will also be looking to bring in a top manager to start building the squad around three key loyalists: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Matteo Politano and Stanislav Lobotka.
Napoli have placed a €150 price tag on Osimhen, who is being linked to a litany of top European clubs such as PSG, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc.
The 25-year-old, who has scored 63 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions since joining them from Lille in 2020, signed a new contract with Napoli in December that will keep him at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium until 2026, with Napoli smartly inserting a €130m release clause in the deal.
