Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, is still touring northern states, providing assistance to people in need during Ramadan. Nigerians’ reactions to his recent visit to Niger State, where he dug a borehole in Suleja, have been conflicting.
Obi’s visit to Niger State comes shortly after his trip to Nasarawa State, where he also provided assistance to the community of Lafia. In both instances, he emphasized his commitment to learning about the challenges faced by people during Ramadan and offering support where needed.
The gesture of installing boreholes in both states has drawn attention, with some Nigerians viewing it as a genuine act of solidarity and support for communities in need. Many commend Obi for his efforts, seeing it as a positive step towards addressing critical societal needs, especially during challenging times.
However, there are also those who perceive Obi’s actions as mere political posturing, aimed at gaining favor ahead of the 2027 elections. They argue that his sudden flurry of charitable deeds in northern states could be construed as a strategic move to garner support from the electorate.
