Former President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, as an “exemplary chief who leads through example and shows the conduct of a true statesman.”
Buhari gave the praise in a statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, on the occasion of the monarch’s 90th birthday
The monarch is the nation’s longest-reigning traditional ruler, having been on the throne ahead of the country’s independence since April 1960.
The former President commended Oba Adetona’s leadership style, saying he “exemplifies how a traditional leader should conduct himself and how to treat others, whether they are his subjects or not.”
Buhari also highlighted Awujale’s “respectable demeanor towards others and his humility and personal integrity” as qualities to be emulated.
He wished Oba Adetona a longer life in service and good health.
