Panic gripped residents as fire ravaged Kpakpando FM, a private radio station located in Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Thursday evening.
The blaze, which broke out around 9:30 pm, engulfed the office building, resulting in partial damage to the studio equipment.
Confirming the incident, the State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili, assured that there were no casualties and credited the swift response of his team for salvaging some equipment.
Agbili stated, “At about 9:39 pm on Thursday, 7th March 2024, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak at KPAKPANDO FM, MBAUKWU. Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and gallant firefighters to the scene of the fire. We fought, controlled, and extinguished the fire.”
He added, “The cause of the fire is unknown. The office building sustained partial damage, with some studio equipment affected, while others and parts of the building were spared. We withdrew from the fire scene at about 11:18 pm.”
