Bauchi and Zamfara states have yet to receive the truckloads of rice promised by the Federal Government to all the states as a measure to alleviate the lingering food crisis.
But Bayelsa State has received 20 truckloads of rice from the Federal Government for immediate distribution to all local government areas in the state.
A Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to Governor Dauda Lawal of Bauchi State, Mustafa Jafaru, noted that the state government had yet to receive the rice as of the time of filing this report.
He said, “We have yet to get the truck of rice as promised by the Federal Government. We just heard about the distribution of the commodity but we have yet to get our own.”
Adama explained that the ministry had put in place preparations to receive the rice any time the trucks arrived.
She said, “We are aware that the Federal Government has allocated 760 trucks of rice to states; that 20 trucks will be sent to Bauchi State. Bauchi State had yet to receive its share.”
However, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiowou Koku-Obiyal, said the state had received its share of rice from the Federal Government and was ready to distribute it.
“The state has received the palliative rice. I just confirmed from the chairman of SEMA that the state had received 20 trucks of 25kg rice,” she stated.
