Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso has tasked President Bola Tinubu, state governors and other political leaders to stop using foreign Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV), cars and start patronising made in Nigeria cars.
The archbishop made the call during his homily on Palm Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral, Kaduna to mark the beginning of holy week by the Catholic faithful.
He said President Tinubu cannot be telling Nigerians to patronize made in Nigeria goods while he and other political leadership are buying SUV cars made in Germany, Japan and America.
He said: “Just last week, our president asked Nigerians to patronise made in Nigerian goods, meanwhile they are using our money to buy cars made in foreign countries, at least we have Innoson cars in Nnewi.
“The president , the governors , senators and all political leaders should live by example by patronizing made in Nigeria goods especially made in Nigerian cars”.
He further said, “if our leaders truly want to show us an example of using Nigerian goods, the billions of naira they are spending in buying foreign cars, if they patronize Innoson and other made in Nigerian goods, many Nigerians will get jobs”.
The eminent cleric therefore urged the government to stop using Nigeria’s resources to buy foreign cars, saying any leadership that wants to make an impact must live by example.
He said, our leaders must learn how to sacrifice for the sake of the people, just as Jesus sacrificed on the cross to redeem his people.
Ndagoso also urged Nigerians not to give up despite the security and economic challenges in the country, adding that the future is bright.
