House Wins Anambra School’s Maiden Inter-House Sports Competition
Green House emerged victorious in the maiden inter-house sports competition of a prestigious secondary school in Anambra State, showcasing outstanding performances in various track and field events.
The keenly contested event, held at the school’s sports complex, saw students from different houses compete in sprint races, long-distance running, relay races, high jump, long jump, and other sporting activities. Green House dominated several categories, earning them the top spot on the medals table.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the school’s principal, Mrs. Nkechi Okonkwo, commended all participants for their sportsmanship and dedication. She noted that the competition was organized to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline among students, while also identifying young talents who could represent the state and nation in the future.
One of the highlights of the event was the 100m boys’ final, where Emeka Nwafor of Green House clinched the gold medal in an impressive display of speed and endurance. Similarly, Adaobi Eze of Blue House won the girls’ 200m race, earning loud cheers from the audience.
The chairman of the event, Hon. Chukwuma Okafor, a former school alumnus and sports enthusiast, praised the students’ efforts and encouraged the school management to sustain the inter-house sports competition as an annual tradition. He also pledged to sponsor sporting kits and facilities for the school to further develop young athletes.
At the end of the event, Green House was crowned overall champions, followed closely by Red House in second place and Blue House in third. The winners received trophies, medals, and certificates, while outstanding athletes were promised further training opportunities.
Parents and well-wishers who attended the event lauded the school’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of sports in shaping well-rounded students. Many expressed hope that the competition would serve as a stepping stone for young athletes to pursue professional sports careers.
