The Bauchi State Government has disclosed moves to control the prices of foodstuffs to ameliorate the current inflation trend across the state.

gathered that the government plans to set up a committee on price measures of foodstuffs, a move which has already received the support of the various religious leaders across the state.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmad Sarki Aliyu Jalam, further made this known while leading a meeting with religious leaders at the ministry.

He said, “The measure would address illegal businesses of foodstuff and other basic needs in the state.

“Bauchi State Government is worried about the activities of some business owners, especially foodstuff dealers,” which, according to him, “creates unnecessary hardship among the citizens, while  assuring that, “action must be taken.”

Jalam solicited support from the religious clerics to achieve a yielding result.

On their part, the religious leaders called on the state government to accelerate the plan with immediate effect and aid the committee with the necessary support to achieve the desired goals.

The Chief Imam of Misau Local Government Central Mosque, Sheikh Usman Muhammad Baba, who spoke on behalf of the religious leaders “promised to support the initiative,” which, according to the members, “is timely, considering the rising cases bordering on the  steep rise in the prices of foodstuff and other basic needs.”

-Muhammad Baba maintained, “The rates at which prices of foodstuff are fluctuating is unreligious especially as the marketers do it out of will not according to reality.”

Participants were drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state where ideas were shared and decisions were taken for the set up of the Committee, and resolutions arrived at will be communicated to the public.
