The Nigeria Immigration Service said it is deploying e-border solutions in Kebbi, a northwestern state bordering Niger Republic.

This followed a two-day working visit to Kebbi State by the Service’s Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, for an on-the-spot assessment of the nation’s borders.

A statement signed Saturday by the Service Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, quoted Nandap, saying, “The intelligence gathered from e-border solutions would be swiftly shared among the security agencies to further enhance collaboration.”

The statement is titled, ‘Border Governance: Nigeria Immigration Service sets to deploy e-border solutions in Kebbi State to enhance migration management and national security.’

During the visits from May 8 – 9, 2024, Nandap visited Governor Nasir Idris and traditional rulers of border towns to strengthen collaboration with the stakeholders on enhanced border security.

At the Governor’s office, the Comptroller-General emphasised the Service’s readiness to continue deploying advanced technology to safeguard Nigeria’s borders.

She further stressed that the e-border solutions already being deployed will help checkmate trans-border crimes and other related offences.

Governor Nasir promised to provide an unspecified number of vehicles to enhance operational efficiency, stating that this partnership underscores a shared commitment to promoting national security and sustainable migration governance.

He also promised to provide further assistance as may be required to enhance the operational efficiency of the Regional Migration Academy, Tugga.

The Immigration Chief also held talks with the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Major General Muhammad Bashar (retd.), and the border community leader from Kamba Community.

The Gwandu meeting also involved other stakeholders whose proximity to border crossings and first-hand knowledge of the locality make them invaluable assets in identifying and addressing security threats.

Nandap’s assessment tour also saw visits to the State Command in Birnin Kebbi, FOB located at Kyengyakwai, Kamba Control Post, Dole Kaina (Land) and Lolo (Marine) Control Posts, where the e-border technology is being situated, built and installed to provide real-time surveillance on the nation’s border.

During the brief with relevant security agencies at the border post, she urged personnel to be sensitive in executing their duties.

She reminded them to remember their training, calling for extra vigilance to detect and prevent the activities of bandits and insurgents.
