The Malam-Fatori community, displaced from Borno State to neighboring Niger Republic due to floods during the 2023 rainy season may soon be relocated back home.

The Lake Chad shores community in Abadam Local Government Area of the state had previously returned home from the Francophone country after being displaced by Boko Haram in previous years.

However, before they could resume their usual socio-economic endeavours, the floods of last year forced them to retreat once again to the neighbouring country, with the majority of their population settling in Bosso.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, was at Malam-Fatori on Sunday, April 28 to assess the preparedness of facilities for the relocation of the community back home.

“I have interacted with the military officers here, and looking at the commitment and hard work of the commanding officer, I believe we can resettle the people back to this community,” Zulum said.

“I am happy that a number of people of Malam-Fatori, who reside in Bosso were able to cross over and cultivate their farmlands; this is a huge achievement,” he said.

Consequently, the governor and the military officers held closed-door discussions on the modalities for the prompt relocation of the community.

Zulum thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt attention to the fight against the insurgency in the North-East.

While interacting with officers and men of the task force battalion in Malam-Fatori, gave assurance of providing the necessary support to complement the federal government’s efforts.

The Governor also extended his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his commitment to restoring peace in Borno State.
