Minister mourns ex-Senate spokesman

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has condoled with the family and friends of a former Senate spokesperson, Ayogu Eze, who died at the age of 66.

Eze, who represented the Enugu North Senatorial District between 2007 and 2015, passed away last Thursday in an Abuja hospital after suffering from an undisclosed illness.

The minister, in a statement on Sunday, saidย  Ezeโ€™s death was a loss to Enugu State and the country at large.

The minister said, โ€œIt is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of Senator Ayogu Eze, a revered figure in Enugu State and a pivotal advocate for democracy in Nigeria.

โ€œHis untimely departure marks a significant loss for both the state and the nation at a crucial time in our democratic development.

โ€œThroughout his career, Senator Eze was deeply involved in Nigeriaโ€™s transition from military rule, actively contributing to the establishment of our current democratic framework. He was particularly noted for his roles in the Third Republic and as a member of the Transition to Civil Rule Committee.โ€

Nnaji said Ezeโ€™s legislative tenure, including two terms as a senator from 2007 to 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party, was marked by significant contributions to legislative reforms and a commitment to internal democracy.
