The Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club, District 404B2, has carried out renovation works at the Agidingbi Primary School in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The club also donated about 50 pairs of corrective glasses to some residents on Wednesday.

The donation, in partnership with the Lions Club International Foundation, was part of the club’s initiatives to complement the government’s efforts in enhancing the welfare of the underprivileged, its eighth president, Opeyemi Sanyaolu, said.

René Loiuseau founded the global non-governmental organisation in Nigeria in 1963, and it is well known for helping the underprivileged and executing community initiatives like giving free medical examinations and feeding the hungry and the disabled, among others.

While donating the pairs of eyeglasses to the beneficiaries at the Agidingbi Primary School in Ikeja on Wednesday, Sanyaolu said it was to help poor people with eye defects who lacked the wherewithal to get glasses.

He said, “We have carried out a medical mission in the same school. As you can see, today we gave out glasses. We had our legacy project 3.0, which was a medical intervention where we had various tests. For those who were screened, we didn’t give them eyeglasses or drops on that day. Because eye screening involved different eye defects, we could not have purchased glasses randomly. Those who came that day had their eyes tested.

“The optician came back and developed the report into different types of glasses. That is why we came here today, to present the eyeglasses to the beneficiaries.”

While unveiling the legacy projects during his leadership, Sanyaolu further disclosed that the association had also renovated dilapidated classrooms to facilitate a conducive learning environment for the pupils of the school.

He said, “This is the inauguration of our Legacy Project 4.0, which involves the renovation of classrooms and the revamping of a creche. Before now, the school wall paintings were so outdated that the block walls were all cracked and broken. We observed that the place was not conducive enough for the children, as it was a big hazard to them.
