Vice President Kashim Shettima said President Bola Tinubu is committed to improving Nigeria’s infrastructural expansion, with a particular focus on the basic needs and requirements of the nation.
Shettima made this known when he hosted members of the Borno Elders Forum, members of the All Progressives Congress and other stakeholders to Ramadan Iftar (breaking of fast) at his residence in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The details of Tuesday evening’s discussions was revealed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications Stanley Nkwocha in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu committed to Nigeria’s infrastructure development—VP Shettima.’
His comments followed persistent power outages in Maiduguri and some parts of Borno.
In the first two weeks of March Maiduguri residents were plunged into total darkness when the new 50 megawatt Gas power plant supplying power to the town stopped working.
Constructed by the Federal Government, the gas power plant was meant to serve as a solution to the regular attacks by insurgents on the National Grid transmission line supplying power to the town.
This was followed by other episodes of epileptic power supply as residents grappled with temperatures as high as 43 degrees Celsius.
According to the Nkwocha, the Shettima assured residents that Tinubu is well aware of the challenge “having caught the President’s attention, thus the directive issued by President Tinubu for the situation to be immediately addressed.”
He also called for continued support for the Tinubu administration by all Nigerians, just as he said the government’s policies would be immensely beneficial to all and sundry in no distant time.
“We owe it to this President to be loyal and law-abiding citizens. He has a total grasp of the situation, challenges and indeed, the prospects we have as a nation.
“A careful look at our nation’s economy will show a gradual bouncing back on most frontiers. This is a testament that, indeed, the investment of our votes and trust in this leader will pay off at the end of the road.
“So, let us continue to pray for him, commit ourselves to peace, unity and development of the Nigerian nation and we shall definitely be the winners for it,” the Vice President noted.
Also speaking at the event was the Chairman of Borno Elders Forum, Gambo Gubio, who thanked the Vice President for the invitation.
Gubio expressed deep belief and trust in the capacities of both the President and his Vice.
He was joined by the secretary of the group, Bulama Gubio, who acknowledged the commitment of the Tinubu administration to the Nigerian project, adding that the President deserves support from all Nigerians.
