The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilesa, Ilesa, Osun State, Prof Taiwo Asaolu, has called for assistance in solving the menace of herders and illegal miners, having unfettered access to the campus of the institution.
Prof Ashaolu, who spoke in Ilesa on Saturday at the foundation laying ceremony of the Faculty of Nursing Laboratory Building financed by the Ijesa community, said miners and herders were having access to the university since its campus did not have perimeter fencing.
Ashaolu, who reeled out series of achievements recorded by the management since the institution formally took off, said the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, had been providing needed support, calling on well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the institution to make available quality education for the teeming youth populace.
Commending the Ijesa community for the donation, the VC sought further assistance towards securing the National Universities Commission accreditation for 32 new academic programmes the institution intended to commence.
Asked about the immediate challenge of the university, Ashaolu said, “As I have always said, issue of herders, gold miners, the institution is not having a perimeter fencing and we are talking about a university, unfettered access to the campus day and night is not supposed to be so.
