Eight students of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, in Ebonyi State, have been expelled from the institution, while 23 others are facing disciplinary actions for breaching the institution’s moral guidelines.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Jesse Uneke, stated this during the third matriculation ceremony of the 2023–2024 academic session on Saturday.
Uneke, who spoke extensively on the vision of the institution to raise quality graduates, said that the university maintains very strict discipline.
According to him: “This university maintains very strict discipline; the university rules and regulations are unforgiving when they are violated.
“Between the last matriculation and present, the Senate of the university approved disciplinary actions on a total of 31 students, depending on the magnitude of their offences.
“Eight students were expelled. Three students received a one-year suspension. Seven students received a one-semester suspension. Two students received a two-month suspension. Six students received a one-month suspension. One student received a two-week suspension, and four students received warning letters.”
The VC commended President Bola Tinubu, the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, the founder of the institution, who is now the Minister of Work, David Umahi, and the host community for their support.
Meanwhile, the university matriculated over 800 students in 14 various departments and awarded cash gifts to the best-performing students.
